While looking in the mirror, I suddenly noticed a very big rat moving behind me. Then I saw a small snake. After that, I saw a yellowish animal that looked very similar to an iguana or a large lizard. It was standing behind me and placed its paw on my shoulder. Assalamu Alaykum.
Thank you for sharing your dream with us. It is always a blessing to reflect on what we see in our sleep, as the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught us that "True dreams are from Allah, and bad dreams are from Shaitan" (Sahih Muslim). He guided us to seek refuge in Allah if we see something unsettling, but also to understand that dreams can be gentle reflections of our waking life.

Looking into a mirror in your hostel room reflects your focus on yourself, your current situation, and perhaps your personal growth at this stage in your life. The fact that the animals appeared behind you while you were looking in the mirror suggests that this dream is about the environment and the people surrounding you, rather than you directly.

In the traditions of Islamic dream interpretation, a rat often points to someone in your environment who might be untrustworthy, deceitful, or secretly taking advantage of situations. The small snake usually represents a minor enemy or someone who holds a bit of jealousy or hidden animosity toward you. Because it is small, it means this person’s ability to affect you is very weak.

The yellowish lizard or iguana placing its paw on your shoulder is an interesting symbol. Lizards often represent people who gossip, carry tales, or are generally unreliable. The color yellow can sometimes indicate envy or someone who is emotionally draining. By placing its paw on your shoulder, it shows that such a person might try to get close to you, act familiar, or lean on you in a way that crosses your personal boundaries.

The fact that you saw your roommate from the place you are about to move to ties all of this directly to your living arrangements. These animals likely represent the different personalities, minor jealousies, or gossip you might encounter in hostel life—either your current one or the one you are moving to.

However, the most beautiful and reassuring part of your dream is that you were not scared at all. You just watched them without feeling anything. This means that even if there are deceitful or envious people around you, they will not be able to harm you, Insha'Allah. You have a strong sense of self and emotional protection against their negativity.

As a piece of guidance, simply be mindful of your surroundings. Keep healthy boundaries with the people you live with, and be a bit cautious about who you share your deep personal secrets with as you transition to your new place. You don't need to be worried or paranoid—your dream clearly shows you have the upper hand—just stay observant and protected.

May Allah protect you and make your upcoming move easy and blessed. Let me know if anything feels unclear!
